Mother of 2 Teenage Girls and Race Car Driver
Hi, I’m Kim and I’m one of the founders of Women Nation. My story is long and convoluted. I am a child of the 70’s–a time when kids didn’t wear seat belts, when we walked 3 miles to elementary school, and when the latch key was hidden under the doormat. I loved horses and made that my hobby.
That hobby is the main reason why I chose Sweet Briar College, a women’s college in Southern Virginia. My education was so incredibly valuable! I can’t list enough reasons why right now, but know that I wouldn’t be the person I am today without having learned lessons from professors dedicated to empowering women. I thought an all-woman’s school was the very best option for me.
After graduation, I spent time in Boulder, Colorado, but was soon asked to return home to run and take over the family business. My father introduced me to commercial mortgage finance, and I’ve been running Branig Capital Markets since 2008.
In 2014 I became a woman entrepreneur when I formed Convention Nation, a conference search platform. CN helps event planners sell tickets, connect speakers with events, and shows exhibitors how to choose events which result in greater ROI. On this journey, I attended a lot of women’s events, and I learned firsthand that the struggles I faced in the business world were the same struggles many other women face.
It was time to create Women Nation. Here I am now, with my Convention Nation team of incredible ladies (and guys), who look forward to showcasing women-owned businesses across the country. I hope you’ll join us on this journey so we can make the changes we want to see in the world. It starts with us.
Oh–and did I mention that my new hobby is racing cars? I’ll elaborate on that in a future post.
Lover of Bridal Beauty and Photography
As Vice President of Convention Nation, my position is to bring people together, by partnering and connecting them with each other. I’m not a stranger to meeting people’s needs, as I’ve successfully owned a busy Hair Salon and various small businesses for 24 years. As an independent business owner it wasn’t easy to get answers or direction as I struggled on my own in a competitive field.
The concept of Women Nation is to empower women as well as help each other succeed. Creating this platform has been a lifelong dream of mine. Women Nation enables you to share stories with other women entrepreneurs and get advice all while marketing your business. If I have the ability to help just one woman thrive, then I am one happy woman.
